I bought a MSI FM2-A85XMA-P33 Mainboard with a AMD A10 6700 APU and 16GB DDR3 Memory as a ESXi host. BUT after I installed Windows 7 and ran MSI Live Update, it said that I need to upgrade the BIOS. So did I (well, the Live Update did it for me actually). Afterwards I wasn’t able to boot the system, because it actually DOWNGRADED the BIOS. Great tool! The error was:
Warning !!
BIOS is incorrect, please update BIOS for Richland.
Press F1 to run setup.
How would I update to Richland, when the website only offered .EXE files to be executed from Windows – which I could not boot. Stupid MSI…
How to solve?
– Go to http://rufus.akeo.ie/ and get Rufus, create a boot USB drive (MS-DOS!! – FreeDOS will NOT work!)
– Go to http://www.msi.com/product/mb/FM2-A85XMA-P33.html#/?div=BIOS and download the latest BIOS (Version 11.3, 2013-08-14, 7721vB3.zip for me), unzip it to the USB drive you just created (it should contain a .EXE file)
– Inside UEFI BIOS chose the “Save and Exit” menu and on the bottom page it should list your USB drive (Kingston, Sandisk, whatever) – boot it.
– Execute the .EXE from inside MS-DOS.
Afterwards the first thing I did was uninstalling MSI Live Update :)
Thank you.
You saved me.
