I recently upgraded my Debian system to Jessie and noticed that spamassassin is not working after the upgrade. It seems the introduction of systemd broke it. I found these errors in my /var/log/main.err file:

Feb  1 14:11:09 host spamc[13232]: connect to spamd on ::1 failed, retrying (#1 of 3): Connection refused
Feb  1 14:11:09 host spamc[13232]: connect to spamd on 127.0.0.1 failed, retrying (#1 of 3): Connection refused
Feb  1 14:11:10 host spamc[13232]: connect to spamd on ::1 failed, retrying (#2 of 3): Connection refused
Feb  1 14:11:10 host spamc[13232]: connect to spamd on 127.0.0.1 failed, retrying (#2 of 3): Connection refused
Feb  1 14:11:11 host spamc[13232]: connect to spamd on ::1 failed, retrying (#3 of 3): Connection refused
Feb  1 14:11:11 host spamc[13232]: connect to spamd on 127.0.0.1 failed, retrying (#3 of 3): Connection refused
Feb  1 14:11:11 host spamc[13232]: connection attempt to spamd aborted after 3 retries

Actually all I had to do is enable spamassassin in systemd by typing
systemctl enable spamassassin

The bug is known as #764438
